Wine, Women & Shoes presents Wine 101 Benefiting the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden April 27, 2007 Back Bay Events Center Boston, Massachusetts
Ever have trouble figuring out what wine to order when the waiter hands you the wine menu in a fancy restaurant? Ever wonder what wine goes best with what food?
New England’s first-ever Wine 101 takes an innovative approach to teaching young professionals about wines and wine appreciation. Wine 101, a charitable event to benefit the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, will include a wine education and wine tasting event where select female vintners from Napa Valley will lightheartedly compare attributes of their wines to designer shoes, paired with the wines.
Wine 101 is a way to teach an audience to appreciate wines and wine-making by tasting a variety of wines, all the while learning to describe what they’re experiencing and relating it to something they understand--shoes. For example, a Sauvignon Blanc may be compared to a “silver, strappy sandal— it’s metallic, it’s racy, it’s fun and it’s versatile.” A special feature of Wine 101 will be a shoe raffle, in which winners will receive a glamorous pair of shoes in their size.
The seated wine tasting/wine education presentation by featured Napa Valley vintners will be preceded by a welcome reception, during which guests will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets as they enjoy hors d’oeuvres and sip wines. Shoes paired with wines will be passed among guests on silver platters by young men and women who support the cause of the Garden.
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, a charitable organization that provides a unique program of care, support and education for those touched by breast cancer, will be the first host of Wine 101 in Boston in 2007. The Healing Garden is actively seeking Leadership Gifts by individuals and corporate sponsors. All proceeds will benefit the Healing Garden. For more information about services at the Healing Garden, contact Executive Director Betsy Tyson-Smith or Lana Heino Roman at 978.456.3532.
Inspired by the genius and generosity of Founder and Creative Director Elaine Honig, Proprietor of Napa Valley’s Honig Vineyard and Winery, Boston’s Wine 101 is being launched as an opportunity to cultivate philanthropy among younger members of the community, encourage giving, and engage young adults in the enjoyment of wine.
A second Wine, Women & Shoes event, a Gala Cocktail Reception and Runway Fashion Show, will be held the following evening, April 28, 2007, at the Back Bay Events Center, and will also benefit the Healing Garden.
